2020 Is Coming To A Close…

December is here already. I hear people saying, “I can’t wait until this year is over”, and although I totally understand? It kind of makes me wonder: What is going to magically happen in 2021? It appears not much in our landscape is changing soon. What were the blessings and silver linings of this year?

This year has been a very trying year for us all, and for me personally as well. I got Covid in June, and had 3 weeks of not feeling very well. It could have been much worse, I know my case was mild. I helped move my parents out of our family home that we have had for over 50 years. Consequently both of my parents’ health went downhill, and the trips to California to check in have been almost monthly.

We have friends that are willing to socialize, and friends that prefer not to. For my husband and me that has meant a whole lot more time together, and has made me feel so very grateful that I am in a good marriage with a good man. My kids are all doing well, knock on wood, so I can rest easy in that!

How has the year been for you? How are you managing the stress of isolation, lock-downs, working from the home, and not being as social? How is this year affecting your physical and emotional health? Health has many components, and certainly our emotional health is high on the list. If you are feeling stressed or depressed, that is something that needs to be talked through.

My work, my passion, is to get you feeling as close to great as you can get. I like to say that being healthy is not just what is on your plate. Being healthy is looking at all the parts of you that make you healthy. Nutrition is certainly a part, but also stress, sleep, social connectedness, and mindful practices all are important to overall health.

When you look to your health goals for 2021, consider your stress levels, your time for yourself. Allowing yourself time for a walk, pick up the phone and call a friend, make dinner special even if it is just with the family! Always check in to yourself: what am I feeling? What can I do to address it?

A year changing from one to the next is really not that exciting. Magic does not happen with a calendar page turning. Magic happens with good health and thankfulness.
